Available as a coupe and an estate (aka 'Shooting Brake'), the second generation W218 Mercedes CLS63 AMG was introduced for sale in 2011.
The handbuilt 5.5 litre twin-turbo V8 initilaly produced 518bhp, increasing to 550bhp with the 2014 facelift (matching the output of the original optional 'Performance Pack'). Power was transmitted through a 7-speed (latterly 9-speed) automatic gearbox to either the front or (optionally) all 4 wheels. Manual, Sport and Sport Plus driving modes could be selected.
Economy (28mpg) and emissions (230 g/Km CO2) were pretty good considering the size of the CLS and the performance on offer.
A new price of around £81k may seem steep, but used models of this practical powerhouse can now be had for well under £25k in the UK. Incredible!
