Launched at the 2012 Geneva motor show, the 2nd generation Cayman began production in 2013.
The 987's 3.4 litre flat-6 was carried over to the 981, but with a power increase to 321bhp. Transmission was either through a 6-speed manual or superquick 7-speed PDK. In dual clutch guise, acceleration from 0-200kmh was a full 3 seconds quicker than the 987, while top speed hovered around 175mph.
With a more rigid chassis than it's predecessor, the mid engined 981 had superb handling, perhaps even superior to contemporary 911s.
The 918 inspired body is more spacious than the 987, coming with a higher quality trim and desirable options such as PCM (nav), PASM (active suspension) and PDLS (speed sensitive lights).
As with it's predecessor, the 981 Cayman was the class leading sports car of it's day. They are now highly sought after, being the last model to feature the flat-6 before Porsche switched to the 4-cyl turbo of the 718.
