Named after racing driver Louis Chiron, Bugatti's Chiron concept debuted at the 1999 Frankfurt motor show.

Based on the chassis of Lamborghini's Diablo VT, the Chiron was powered by a monstorous 6.3 litre W18 engine (three banks of 6-cylinders each) with an output of 555hp. 0-60mph in 3.9 sec and a 208mph max speed were claimed.

Italdesign's Giugiaro was responsible for the Chiron's styling, with the traditional horseshoe grille flanked by state of the art Xenon lighting.

The concept was eventually heavily reworked to form the prototype for the legendary Veyron hypercar.
